Edmond students Evan Hamlin, Alexandra French and Alexis Pfeiffer were top-10 finalists at the Ford American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) World Championship Show in Oklahoma City.

Hamlin won in Hunter Hack with Valentinos Vaquero, a 1999 Bay American Quarter Horse gelding, while Alexandra French was a top-10 finalist in Working Hunter with Hesa Cool Kid, a 1992 Bay American Quarter Horse gelding.

The Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association is proud to sponsor the new Oklahoma George Washington Essay Contest, “How Did George Washington Shape the Presidency and the Nation?” This essay contest is a part of a two-year initiative, The George Washington Oklahoma Teaching Ambassador Program, funded by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. The contest, which accepts submissions exclusively from Oklahoma students until Sept. 17, awards four students with a trip to Mount Vernon, Va., to attend a national distance learning broadcast, Shaping the Presidency, with historian Joseph Ellis and ABC journalist Cokie Roberts on Oct. 14.

The top essay winner’s teacher will have the option to either attend a week-long program, all expenses paid, at Mount Vernon’s George Washington Teachers’ Institute in 2009 or to accompany his or her student to Mount Vernon for the Shaping the Presidency broadcast.

For more information concerning the contest, please e-mail Jan McClaren, George Washington Oklahoma Ambassador, at jmcclaren@mountvernon.org.
