Applications for Youth Leadership Edmond Class VIII are available now in all Edmond high school counselors’ offices and on the Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce’s Web site, www.edmondchamber.com. Applications are due Sept. 17, at the high school counselor’s office.
YLE is hosted by the Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce and is sponsored by Edmond Medical Center. YLE applicants must be high school juniors who reside in the Edmond city limits and/or the Edmond Public School District and attend Edmond Public Schools, Deer Creek (Edmond residents only), private schools or who are home schooled.
Applicants must possess at least a 3.0 grade point average, and interested students should demonstrate leadership or leadership potential in family, community and/or school activities and show desire to develop additional leadership skills. Students should also express an interest in furthering their knowledge of the Edmond community.
YLE sessions are six days (one per month November through April) out of school with full credit, concluding with an evening graduation in April. Attendance at the opening session, graduation and five day-long sessions is required.
Selection is a two-step process. The first step is a written application reviewed by the Youth Leadership Edmond selection panel. The second step is an in-person interview. Final selection is based upon the information provided on the written application and the interview.
