Edmondites march across nation

The Edmond Sun

EDMOND — Edmond students Braeden Lortz, Austin Nelson and Chris Sowder toured with various Drum Corps International programs, (DCI), this summer.

Auditions for the DCI corps were held in November and a call back audition was held in December in various locations across the country. Students from all over the world come to participate in the corps.

The Corps these boys marched with were The Cavaliers, Rosemont, Ill.; the Bluecoats, Canton, Ohio; and The Crossmen, San Antonio, Texas, respectively.

Participants are 16-21 years old. The boys put in 12 hours of practice a day during pre-tour (May through June) and eight-hour practice days while touring from June through August.

They performed in a new town almost every night across the USA, traveling 14,000 miles from May through August — all for a 12-minute program.

The World Finals were held in Indianapolis, Ind., on Aug. 9. Each performance by a DCI corps requires discipline and the precision of the movements they perform. One parent stated the DCI is considered the major league of marching bands.
