Edmond semester exam exemptions increase

The Edmond Sun

EDMOND In light of the unusual circumstances regarding H1N1 and the number of student absences that might result from contacting the virus, Edmond Public Schools has recommended revisions to the semester test exemption policy with the hope that both students and parents will understand the importance of keeping students who are ill at home, said Brenda Lyons, associate superintendent of secondary education.

The Edmond Public Schools Board of Education will vote on the following changes to Policy #4215, Attendance Policy for grades 9-12, Attendance Incentive: Semester Exam Exemption at the Oct. 5 Board of Education meeting.

Policy revisions will be effective for 2009-10.

The number of absences allowed for students to be eligible for a semester test exemption will increase from three to six.

The number of semester absences for seniors during the second semester will be increased from three to six for those with a semester grade average of A, from two to four for those with a semester grade average of B, and from one to two for those with a semester grade average of C.

The remainder of the policy will be unchanged.

Anticipating the board will accept the recommended revisions, to effect a more immediate impact, principals are communicating these changes to students and parents at this time.
