Students snuggle into school for pajama day

EDMOND Characters from “Cars,” Disney princesses and a variety of animals made it to Clyde Howell Elementary Friday on students’ pajamas as part of Pajama Day.

The pre-kindergartners participated in activities that incorporated pajamas, including sorting by pajama color and singing “Ten in the Bed.”

“It helps them internalize the concepts we’re learning,” said Julie White, pre-kindergarten teacher.

White said students will learn about day and night and eat Bedtime Bears,” which are teddy grahams and butter rolled up in a piece of bread.

“We kind of try to create snacks that are fun and go with the curriculum,” White said.

She said in the previous weeks they have focused on teaching students about time and things they do during the day and the night.

“We’re culminating this unit with this day to help them put it all together and make connections,” White said.

Margie Anderson-Hall, pre-kindergarten teacher, said her class will do an activity with the Big Green Monster. White said this activity is to help students learn about different expressions and how to overcome their fears.

Triplets Maggy, Molly and Landry Grandstaff were among the many children who happily came to school in their favorite pajamas. Maggy and Molly wore matching owl pajamas.

“My mommy picked them out,” Maggy said. “They’re owls.”

Landry also came to school in style in Batman pajamas and slippers of the character Mater, from the Disney movie “Cars.” He said Mater is his favorite character.

A little university spirit also was present with OU pajamas worn by pre-kindergartner Brice Jones and OSU pajamas worn by Anderson-Hall. Jones accessorized his OU pajamas with a Spider-Man hoodie jacket.

“He’s a super hero,” Jones said.
