EDMOND NMS names 2 more Edmond students Semifinalists

Two Edmond seniors attending the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics were notified recently that they have been named as National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists. The students are Jing Zhang, home school Edmond/

Santa Fe and George Malatinszky, home school Edmond/Classen School of Advanced Studies.

These students have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,000 National Merit Scholarships awarded in the spring. OSSM is Oklahoma’s two-year residential high school for academically advanced juniors and seniors from across the state.



America’s Favorite School contest sponsored by Care2 and GreatSchools

The school with the most votes wins $20,000 and every week a lucky school wins $500.

Gwen Cacy Award goes to John Ross teacher

Elaine Martindale, Speech-Language Pathologist, was recently honored by the Oklahoma Speech-Language Hearing Association with the Gwen Cacy Award for excellence in clinical skills. This award is given to a member whose primary occupation is that of a clinician, rather than an instructor, supervisor or administrator and who exemplifies distinguished clinical service.

Elaine has been a Speech-Language Pathologist at John Ross Elementary for the past nine years. She works hard to meet the individual needs of each of her students. She takes her responsibility of working with students, parents and teachers very seriously and is a great resource for her colleagues.



Bank representative meets with Cimarron students

Cimarron Middle School sixth grade Enrichment students met with a representative of Coppermark Bank, Dane Zaslaw, a former Cimarron Enrichment student. He spoke with the students about setting goals.



College of Education names Kristy VanDorn 2009 Rising Star

Oklahoma State University College of Education alumna Kristy VanDorn, a Deer Creek Public Schools teacher who was recently a finalist for Oklahoma’s Teacher of the Year, has been named the College’s 2009 Rising Star Award winner. The Rising Star Award annually recognizes young alumni whose lives and achievements demonstrate promise of future leadership and bring distinction to the College.

VanDorn was formally presented the Rising Star Award and spoke to current College of Education students at the 36th annual COE Scholarships and Awards Banquet on Oct. 23 on the OSU campus.
