EDMOND Seventeen hundred Oklahoma students recently tried out for the 100 spots available in the Central Oklahoma Director’s Association (C.O.D.A.) bands.

According to Santa Fe High School’s band director Michael Lowery, C.O.D.A. All-Region Honor Band includes schools within a 50-mile radius of the Oklahoma State Capitol. There are approximately 80 member schools in the organization.

The three Edmond high schools had a total of 68 students selected to the High School C.O.D.A. band.

Santa Fe had 32 students accepted, North had 19 and Memorial had 17.

Lowery said the number of students chosen represents the district well.

“I am really pleased with the overall performances of my students,” Fry said. “I think their dedication is a tribute to them.”

Fifty-nine students will represent the Edmond middle schools in the Seventh Grade C.O.D.A. and Eighth and Ninth Grade C.O.D.A. Band.

Central Middle School had 18 students chosen for the Eighth and Ninth Grade C.O.D.A. Band, Cheyenne had nine students chosen, Cimarron had three students chosen, Sequoyah had nine students and Summit had 20 students chosen.

The C.O.D.A. bands will be presenting a concert the second weekend in January on the University of Oklahoma’s campus.

“The students will practice all day Friday and perform a concert Saturday afternoon,” Lowery said.
