Special to The Sun
The University of Central Oklahoma’s International Student Council and the Office of International Services will present the UCO Night Market Gala at 6 p.m. April 12 at Central’s International House located at 912 Chowning Ave. in Edmond.
The event is free, but guests will have an opportunity to participate in a live and silent auction to support the International House. The house, which opened last year, hosts opportunities for students of all cultures to interact and learn together.
“Supporting the International House enables Central to help our students become leaders who are resourceful and engaging in the community locally and globally, a big part of our mission as a top metropolitan university,” said Alvin Teh, president of Central’s International Student Council, International House manger and master of ceremonies for the gala.
The event also will feature a tea tasting, sit-down dinner and recognition of award recipients.
The 2013 award recipients include, William Radke, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, and Charles De Coune, lending manager for the Financial Assistance Division of the Oklahoma Water Resources Board. They will be recognized for their support and contributions made to international programs at Central.
Auction items include a lunch with UCO President and First Lady Don and Suzanne Betz, world-renowned violinist Kyle Dillingham to play at an event and memorabilia from former Central president and prominent Oklahoma statesman, George Nigh.
Attendees also will enjoy special performances by students playing Japanese drums, a Vietnamese dance, a bamboo dance, music played on a Caribbean drum and an interactive dance session.
Tax-deductible donations also will be accepted through the UCO Foundation to help furnish the International House. Those who donate more than $100 will become a member of the Bronze and Blue Club, a group recognized for their support of Central’s International House.
The gala is black tie optional and is open to the public; however, reservations are required.
Seating is limited so reservations should be made early by emailing the International House at email@example.com. Deadline for reservations is April 11. For more information about the gala visit www.uco.edu/student-affairs/international/international-house/.
