Every study confirms it; reading skill is the strongest predictor of success in school, and the presence of books in the home makes all the difference.
But students from poor neighborhoods rarely have books of their own.
First Book is changing that. Since 1992, First Book has distributed 99 million brand-new, high-quality books to kids in need across the country, creating millions of readers.
And now it is close to reaching the milestone of 100 million books. Every $2.50 donated provides one brand-new book for a child in need.
First Book has put together a list of 10 books that every child should own as they grow up. The list of 10 books includes: “Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type,” “Eating the Alphabet,” “Green Eggs and Ham,” “To Kill a Mockingbird,” “Martin’s Big Words,” “The Snowy Day,” “Where the Wild Things Are,” and “A Wrinkle in Time.”

John Ross psychologist named School Psychologist of the Year
John Ross Elementary School Psychologist Nicole Marler has been named the School Psychologist of the Year by the Oklahoma School Psychological Association. She received her award at the OSPA spring conference last month in Tulsa.

Kindergartners say they are ‘Ready for first grade’
As more than 1,600 Edmond Public School kindergartners await their graduation to first grade they have mixed feelings, much like their senior counterparts graduating this month.
