EDMOND — Edmond Memorial High School graduates are members of an elite group of Oklahomans whose origins date back to early statehood.

“In the 90 years since the first group of proud Bulldogs graduated from then Edmond High School, thousands have joined the ranks for EHS — and more recently EMHS — alumni,” said the school’s new principal, Justin Coffelt, who recently took over the position.

“Unfortunately, however, none of the graduates have ever formalized as an association to celebrate the unparalleled accomplishments of the maroon and gray, until now.”

Debbie Bendick, Memorial’s former principal, is now Edmond Public Schools’ director of secondary education.

“Discussions about organizing Memorial’s alumni started a few years ago,” Bendick said.

The school has established the Bulldog Alumni Club, Coffelt said, himself a graduate of Edmond Memorial High School.

All graduates are invited to affiliate, and there is no cost for membership. The Alumni Club is planning a dinner and awards ceremony at Oak Tree Country Club from 6-9 p.m. on Aug. 6. During the ceremony the first members will be inducted into the Bulldog Hall of Fame.

Graduates wishing to join the new club and attend the free dinner should complete an online survey, but only if they are planning on attending the dinner.

Permanent plaques commemorating each Hall of Fame inductee will be displayed in the Alumni Hall of Fame Corridor at Edmond Memorial High School.

The 2013-2014 inductees are: Eloise Rodkey Rees, Class of 1935; Beverly Terry, class of 1956; Charles Lamb, class of 1965; Byron Graham, Class of 1965; and Bill Self, Class of 1981.

Tickets for this event are free, but are limited. Don’t miss out; reserve your tickets early at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PP6Y7WK, as tickets will be issued on a first come, first serve basis. By confirming your attendance on the survey above, you and your guests will automatically be added to the guest list for the event. If you have any questions or need to make any changes after you register please e-mail Justin.coffelt@edmondschools.net.

“The event should prove to be a very special evening,” Coffelt said. “Our hope is all who attend leave the ceremony in awe of not only the inductees’ accomplishments, but also their stories. Each inductee will have the opportunity to speak about his/her chosen career after leaving EHS or EMHS but more importantly, how his/her family, friends, education, school community and the town of Edmond that surrounded him/her during his/her days at the high school impacted his/her personal and professional life.

“We look forward to seeing you and celebrating the pride we all have as graduates of this unrivaled school.”
