Special to The Sun

OKLA. CITY — Cox Communications has announced that its employees will award more than $100,000 to Oklahoma City- and Tulsa-area public and private schools through the Cox Connects Foundation’s Innovation in Education grants. The grant applications are now available to Oklahoma teachers (grades K-12) at www.coxconnectsok.com and will be accepted through April 1.

The Cox Connects Foundation’s Innovation in Education Program provides grants of up to $10,000 each to Oklahoma schools to fund classroom programs and curriculum that encourage and promote students’ ingenuity and imagination through the innovative use of technology. Teachers and principals at eligible schools are encouraged to submit multiple applications.

“As school districts are being forced to reduce budgets and reallocate funds, teachers have to look for resources to implement new or continue existing programs that benefit students,” said Tiffani Bruton, director of public affairs for Cox in Oklahoma. “The Cox Connects Foundation, which is funded through the contributions of Oklahoma employees, looks forward to supporting classroom programs that engage students in innovative learning programs. These students are our state’s future leaders and we believe it’s important to give them the tools they need for success.”

The Cox Connects Foundation was created to strengthen Cox communities through the support of programs that positively impact Oklahomans in the areas of education, technology, health and the arts. In addition to the Cox Connects Innovation in Education grants, the Foundation offers Community Investment grants to 501(c)(3) organizations; Cox Connects Community IMPACT grants to public, charter or private schools and nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations and a portion of the funds help Cox employees through the Cox Cares Employee Relief Program.

Founded in 2005 through the annual contributions of nearly 1,800 statewide employees, the Cox Connects Foundation has invested more than $4 million in Oklahoma and served more than 100,000 youths. In 2014, Cox Oklahoma employees have pledged to donate more than $665,000 to the Foundation to continue fulfilling its mission of strengthening Cox communities through the support of programs that positively impact Oklahomans.
