EDMOND —
Santa Fe High Schools Stomp Team took the Black Entertainment Television by storm when they placed second in the overall competition this summer.
Nine young ladies traveled to New York City twice in a five-week period while on summer break to compete in the nationwide contest, “Wild Out Wednesday.”
After competing in a local contest, Santa Fe Stomp sponsor Richard Bean said different acts were chosen in local contests put on in different states and the winners were invited to New York to compete.
Fundraising during the year helped provide some of the girls’ travel expenses.
“We won the Stomp Battle against several other teams on the local level,” Bean said. “We won the first round we participated in and were judged by viewers watching the performance and voting either by texting in on phones or an app.”
Bean said going to New York and competing was a great experience the girls will never forget. He added the teamwork, working hard to make something out of nothing in a real short period of time and performing under extreme pressure all came together to help the girls win.
Senior Tiffany Daniels said, “Winning was pretty shocking. We all laid our hearts on the stage. We had all worked so hard. It was a breath-taking moment when we won because we didn’t expect it.”
Tiffany added there were a couple of tears but they were tears of joy.
Only three of the team graduated and six of the nine girls are on this year’s team.
The group recently received an invitation to appear during SeptemberFest at the Oklahoma History Museum.

Kindergartners say they are ‘Ready for first grade’
