EDMOND — The Edmond Public School District recently was awarded rebate checks totaling more than $25,000 from Edmond Electric and Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority for HVAC upgrades to John Ross Elementary, 1901 Thomas Drive.

Edmond Electric’s WISE Rebate initiative, which is a joint program with OMPA, provides discounts through the municipally owned utility for the installation of energy-efficient air conditioners and electric heat pumps which help to reduce demand during summer peaks.

“The installation of upgrades to the elementary school significantly reduced the electrical demand resulting in energy savings of 199,385 kilowatt hours annually,” said OMPA Member Services Energy Engineer Tom Willis.

Edmond Electric awarded a rebate to the district in the amount of $19,251. OMPA awarded a rebate in the amount of $6,380.

“The improvements we made to John Ross are part of our district’s continuing commitment to upgrade inefficient equipment which results in the saving of operational funds,” said Bret Towne, associate superintendent of administration.
