Special to The Sun
The Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO) recently opened registration for ACM@UCO’s annual summer rock camp.
The summer rock camp will be from 1–4 p.m. July 22–26 on the fourth floor of the ACM@UCO building in the Bricktown district of downtown Oklahoma City.
Open to children ages 10–16 with basic knowledge in guitar, bass, keyboard, drums and/or vocals, the summer rock camp participants will be placed into bands and will rehearse with band members instructed by ACM@UCO faculty members. The week of activities will culminate with a special performance at the ACM@UCO Performance Lab open to the parents and friends of camp participants.
The summer rock camp will provide participants with a sneak peak into what ACM@UCO is about and the programs it provides to college-aged students.
The ACM@UCO opened its doors to its first class of students in August 2009 on one floor of the Oklahoma Hardware Building in Bricktown on Flaming Lips Alley. Since then, the program has grown to fill three floors of the building and the ACM@UCO Performance Lab, also located in Bricktown.
Based on the successful model of the original ACM in England, the ACM@UCO is an innovative music program unlike any other in the U.S., offering an industry-based, “real world” educational experience for those interested in a career in contemporary music.
From its location in downtown Oklahoma City’s Bricktown district, the ACM@UCO offers two-year associate degree programs in bass, drums, guitar, keyboard, music business, music production and vocals, with the option to pursue a Bachelor of Applied Technology degree.
Cost is $150 per child. Those interested should register by July 17. To register your child for the ACM@UCO summer rock camp, visit http://acm.uco.edu/events/rockcamp2013.asp. Space is limited.
