UCO’s ‘China Night’ offers evening of culture, food, music

Special to The Sun

EDMOND — The University of Central Oklahoma’s Chinese Student Association will present “China Night” at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 3 in the Nigh University Center’s Constitution Hall on Central’s campus. It is free and open to the public.

“China Night” will feature performances of traditional dances, martial arts-like shaolin and wudang, folk songs and the music of bamboo and gourd flutes, the Chinese zither and pianos. The evening will close with a meal typical of the cuisines of the Sichuan and Yunnan provinces in southwestern China.

“UCO’s Chinese Student Association has been serving students from China, as well as developing friendships among students from the rest of the world, for more than two decades. ‘China Night’ is an annual cultural project that promotes Chinese culture and renews and builds friendships with both American students and international students,” said Shibo (Bruce) Wang, vice president of UCO’s International Student Council.

Chinese students make up nearly a fifth of all international students at Central. In 2013, Central saw a rise in international enrollment of nearly 8 percent.
