EDMOND — An issue with a lightning arrester on the distribution system caused a brief power outage in west-central Edmond.

City spokesman Casey Moore said 1,690 customers were without power within the Ketch substation between Danforth and Covell and between Santa Fe and Kelly. Moore said the first call came in at about 1:14 p.m. Thursday and all power was restored by 1:52 p.m.

Initial expectations were for a longer wait for the power to be restored. Field crews drove the lines to locate the problem before energizing, Moore said.

Edmond Public Schools spokeswoman Susan Parks-Schlepp said power was out at John Ross Elementary School, 1901 Thomas Drive, and Cheyenne Middle School, 1271 W. Covell Road.

Police spokeswoman Jenny Monroe said traffic lights were out at Danforth and Santa Fe. An officer was on scene directing traffic.
