EDMOND —
Central Middle School students kicked off their fall fundraiser with two unlikely, yet welcome guests Thursday.
P.J. and Wyatt, Boys Ranch Town goats, were visiting as a reminder that the money raised in the school’s fall fundraiser, which started this week, will go in part for the purchase of goats for an impoverished community.
If the students are successful in raising their goal of $25,000, they will be able to provide a well for a community that does not have a clean water source. The fundraiser will end Sept. 17.
As the children work within their grade level they are “Building Bridges Together,” the school’s motto for the year.
They also will be helping within their own community as well as having an outreach to the world, said Stephani Nichols, one of the fundraising chairs. Co-chair is Dorothy Offerman.
“We are hoping this fundraiser will help the students think outside of themselves as they raise money for those less fortunate,” said Julie Drumm, PTO president.
Impact 4 Kids, the school’s fundraising company, will make the donations on behalf of Central’s students to communities in need.
One dairy goat per grade level raising $5,000 will go to a family in a developing country and when an additional $10,000 is raised a safe water source will be drilled.
Money will be raised in various ways. Products may be purchased through orders, a $10 Impact 4 Kids coupon card may be bought, or money can be donated directly to the school.
A portion of the money raised will stay with the school to purchase supplies or help students in need. Numerous opportunities are available with this event, said Brandon Kysar, principal at Central Middle School.
“Let’s help our students make a positive impact for children in our school, our community and our world,” Nichols said.
