EDMOND —
Edmond Santa Fe High School performing arts students will present their fall play, “The Women of Lockerbie,” at 7 p.m. Dec. 6-7 at the SF auditorium.
Tickets are $6 for students and senior adults and $8 for adults.
Santa Fe’s presentation will be in a black box theatre format, which creates a more intimate setting by putting the audience on same level as the actors.
The play centers on the aftermath of the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, which killed 270 people in 1988. Following the bombing, a mother from New Jersey roams the hills of Lockerbie, looking for her son’s remains that were lost in the crash. She meets the women of Lockerbie, who are fighting the U.S. government to obtain the clothing of the victims found in the plane’s wreckage. The women, determined to convert an act of hatred into an act of love, want to wash the clothes of the dead and return them to the victims’ families.
“The Women of Lockerbie” is loosely inspired by a true story, although the characters and situations in the play are purely fictional. Written in the structure of a Greek tragedy, it is a poetic drama about the triumph of love over hate.
The play is directed by Robin Robinson with set design by Skip Fedder. Olivia Newcomb is the student director. The cast includes Rachel Deutsch as Madeline Livingston, Brody Baumann as Bill Livingston, Addison Lewis as Olive Allison, Leah Handy as Hattie and Lane Jinkins as George Jones. Also featured are Erin Burns, Marlina Bruner, Parker Martin, Alyssa Compton, Mattea White, Brandy Williams, Andree Miller and Brenda West.
