-
Bulldogs look to work out kinks in final game
The Edmond Memorial football team already knows where they’ll be when the playoffs get underway next week, but Justin Merideth doesn’t want it to play like it. Last week the No. 9-ranked Bulldogs (6-3, 5-1) locked up second place in District 6A-2 and the right to host a first-round playoff game when they topped rival North 10-0. Tonight they’ll wrap up the regular season with road trip to Putnam City.
“We want our players to focus on winning this week and getting ready for the playoffs,” the first-year head coach said.

Down but not out
In 26 years of coaching Deer Creek head coach Grant Gower has never seen one team affected by so many injuries. 14 players, including 10 starters are out for tonight’s contest at Lawton MacArthur.
And there’s another thing that will be missing in Lawton tonight, which is excuses. You won’t hear them from Gower, and you won’t hear them from the Antlers, either.

OCA ready for final test with Bowlegs
Finishing sixth in district might not seem like much of goal for many high school football teams, but it would be a huge step for Oklahoma Christian Academy. After recording just one victory in their first season of OSSAA football, the Eagles (2-7, 2-5) can take that next step Friday night when they head to Bowlegs for the season finale.
-
Wolves hoping to end season on a winning note
While things haven’t gone quite the way the Edmond Santa Fe football would have liked, they’re making the best of it. Last week the Wolves (2-7, 1-5) proved a five-game losing streak wasn’t enough to keep them down, as they knocked Norman North out of playoff contention with a 24-7 win. And they will look to keep that momentum up as they host Moore in their season finale.

-
Everything is on the line
A late season Edlam battle between North and Memorial has enough electricity in itself. Toss in a city title and possible home playoff date along with the bragging rights, and you have the potential for a blockbuster tonight at Wantland Stadium.
“When you win football games the school gets into it and there’s a bunch of school spirit, but this is for the city championship,” North senior linebacker Virgil Walker said. “Last year we both lost to Santa Fe, so it was just not to get third place in the city, but this year it’s for all the marbles. And like Coach (Jeremy) Dombek said, if we win this game, the sky is the limit.”
-

Santa Fe can't cash in against No. 14 Wolverines
Lawton did their best to keep Edmond Santa Fe in the game Friday night, but the Wolves wouldn’t have it. The No. 14-ranked Wolverines saw a pair of potential scoring drives end with turnovers in the red zone, but Santa Fe couldn’t capitalize on them, as they lost 31-6 on Friday night at Wantland Stadium.
“We finally get a couple breaks but can’t take of advantage of them,” Santa Fe coach Bruce Gowen said. “In this district if you get a break you better be ready to take advantage of it, we just couldn’t quite get it done. Lawton was a very well prepared team tonight.”
-
Memorial fends off Eagles, 14-7
It wasn’t pretty but The Edmond Memorial Bulldogs held off a persistent Lawton Eisenhower Friday night in Lawton.
It was Senior Night for the Eagles and they were looking to go out with a win and early on it looked like they might pull off an improbable upset.
Cale Olbert got Memorial on the board in the second quarter when he dove into the end zone for a one yard score, Will Contant’s kick made it 7-0.
Ike would battle back late in the second when Louis Durant raced in for an 18-yard score tying the game at the half, 7-7.
-
Antlers pick up win over Chicks
The Deer Creek football team kept their playoff hopes alive Friday night as they held off the Chickasha Chicks 26-16.
Things started off right for the Antlers when Chickasha snapped the ball past quarterback Chase Rodgers and quickly Deer Creek was up 2-0. The Antlers defense would force another Chickasha punt and kicker Cole Mount would make the Chicks pay with a 42-yard field goal that put DC up 5-0.
Chickasha however would fight back and reel off 16 unanswered points. “They have the best quarterback in the state regardless of class, he got some yards on us tonight but we were able to contain him when it mattered,” Antlers head coach Grant Gower said. The Chicks two touchdowns and field goal gave them a 16-5 lead.

Late drive ends Saints title hopes
Oklahoma Christian School head coach Derek Turner and his staff knew how good No. 5-ranked Cashion’s quarterback Jeremy Seaton was running the ball, unfortunately his biggest plays came through the air.
The junior directed a nine-play 89-yard scoring drive — 67 of which came through the air — as they knocked off the No. 7 Saints using a 1-yard run by Seaton with 45.1 left in the contest to win 12-10.
“Cashion played really well as a team, and in the second half they found some things in the middle of the field against us. He’s a good quarterback,” Turner said. “We’re still learning, we’re going to get there, the only difference is instead of hosting in the first round of the playoffs, we’re going to be on the road.”
-
Huskies down PC West
Edmond North was much in need of some momentum, after last week’s deflating loss to Midwest City. While things didn’t go as smoothly as head coach Jeremy Dombek would have liked, the Huskies still picked up some steam with a 36-6 win over Putnam City West Thursday night at Wantland Stadium.
-
OCA to take on No. 5-ranked Davenport
If the Oklahoma Christian Academy football team is to pull an upset against No. 5-ranked Davenport, they’ll have to do it shorthanded. Injuries and illness have left the Eagles thin as they host for one of their toughest opponents of the season tonight.
“We’re just kind of down in numbers and hoping to fill in some spots,” OCA head coach Keith Lough said. “It’s that time of year when you have injuries and sickness and kids get tired and their immune systems are down. We’re just going to be kind of banged up and it’s going to be uphill battle this week.”
-
Santa Fe anxious to take on Lawton
While the heartbreaking losses continue to pile up for the Edmond Santa Fe football team, Bruce Gowen doesn’t have worry about a lapse tonight when his Wolves (1-6, 0-4) host Lawton.
“Our kids have always liked playing Lawton, I don’t know what it is about it, but it’s always been a challenge,” Gowen. “I guess it feels more like something when you have to get on the bus and go an hour and half, two hours, or they have to come up here. And there’s just a lot of tradition of playing Lawton teams.”
-
Antlers will try to stop Chickasha passing attack
With just three weeks remaining in the football season, the Deer Creek Antlers still need two wins to get a playoff spot. And of the three remaining games, tonight’s battle at Chickasha is a good place for the Antlers to snap a two-game skid.
“There’s really little margin for error at this point in the season,” Deer Creek head coach Grant Gower said. “Every game is a big one, and all we know is at the very least we need to win two out of three to get into the playoffs.”
-
OCS, Cashion battle for district title
There’s no getting around it, Friday night’s matchup between No. 7 Oklahoma Christian School and No. 5-ranked Cashion is huge. It’s more than just two ranked squads, it will go a long way in deciding the district champion.
Cashion (7-0, 5-0) did what OCS (6-1, 4-1) failed to do, which is beat Watonga. But the Saints can get back in the race with a win on the road.
The Wildcats defeated Watonga 40-33 last week, while OCS beat Minco 37-8 after trailing early on.
“We’re ready to play. We had a great week of practice, we know how good they are, we’re just ready to play some football,” OCS head football coach Derek Turner said.
