EDMOND (March 13) — Lizzie Brenner's record-setting year continued Thursday when the Central Oklahoma standout was named a first-team selection on the Daktronics All-South Central Regional team.
The 5-10 junior forward from Woodward becomes UCO's first-ever first-team All-Region pick and she now goes on the ballot for the Daktronics All-America team. Joining Brenner on the All-South Central Regional first-team squad, which is voted on by sports information directors in the region, was Player of the Year Emily Brister of West Texas A&M, Audrey Maxwell of Abilene Christian, Britney Jordan of Texas A&M-Commerce and Michelle Stueve of Emporia State.
Brenner, who made the second-team unit last year, has set school career records for made free throws and steals this season and is nearing the all-time marks in blocked shots while ranking third in scoring and fourth in rebounding. With a season remaining, she's on target to own virtually every UCO career record.
The co-Player of the Year in the LSC North Division, Brenner ranks among the league leaders in scoring (17.3 ppg, fifth), rebounding (8.8 ppg, fourth), steals (2.97 ppg, second), blocked shots (1.37 ppg, second) and free throw percentage (80.1, sixth).
Brenner has led the Bronchos to their first-ever NCAA Division II national tournament berth this season. UCO, which earned a share of the LSC North Division title and was runner-up the league tournament, will play St. Mary's at noon Friday in the first round of the South Central Regional.
