North downs Bombers

ENID The No. 10-ranked Edmond North baseball team whipped up on No. 4 Midwest City on Thursday afternoon at the Enid Tournament, downing the Bombers 9-3.

Brad Beeston and Matt Willison started the game with singles, followed by RBI singles from Trent Braden and Hunter Pierce, to give the Huskies a 2-0 first inning lead.

North (10-5) took a 6-3 lead into the sixth inning, when Braden unleashed a two-run homer, giving the Huskies 10 on the year.

“Speed has always been our game, but this year we have a few players that can hit the ball out of the park when given the opportunity. Hunter Pierce leads us with three on the year, as a team we have 10, which for us is a lot,” head coach Rick Nordyke said. “Brad Beeston has been our catalyst all year, we go as he goes. He’s batting over .400 and has 24 stolen bases in 15 games.”

“He could break our school record for stolen bases in a year, which is held by Eric Godsy who had 54.”

Evan Small earned the win on the mound going seven innings.

The Huskies face Putnam City North at 4:30 p.m. today, and with a win would advance to the tournament finals. The other half of the bracket is stacked, with Tulsa Union, Westmoore, Yukon and Enid.
