Wolves fall to No. 8 BA

BROKEN ARROW The No. 2-ranked Santa Fe baseball team routed Tulsa Memorial 9-0 in its first game of the Broken Arrow/Jenks Tournament, before falling 7-6 to No. 8 Broken Arrow in the nightcap.

The Wolves (16-2) hit three home runs against Tulsa Memorial, with Kaleb Brawner, Austin Rycroft and Jordan Lopez, all jacking the ball out of the park.

Santa Fe got 13 hits, to back up Colton Blackburn’s solid outing on the mound.

“Colton Blackburn pitched a great game for us, he gave up three hits and zero runs, it was a great effort,” Santa Fe head coach Lonny Cobble said.

In the second game of the evening, the Wolves got behind 4-1, and trailed 6-1 heading into the sixth inning, when Josh Rosecrans hit a three-run homer, to make it 6-4 going into the seventh.

The difference in the game came in the seventh inning, where the Wolves appeared to have thrown a baserunner out at home plate, but he was ruled safe, to make it 7-4.

“To us it looked like our guy threw him out at home plate, but of course we’re going to see it that way. That run turned out to be the difference,” Cobble said.

Rosecrans went on to hit a two-run homer in the seventh. The Wolves went on to score one more run, but it wouldn’t be enough.

“It’s a great tournament, I’m hoping the guys grow up a little. Really pleased, we never let up, and never let them out of it. We had chances our chances, we just didn’t get it done.

Rosecrans finished 3-for-4 at the plate with five RBI, while Lopez was 2-for-4 with one run scored.

Lopez returned to the team last week, after missing the first 15 games with a broken collarbone that he suffered over Christmas Break.

The Wolves will face Jenks at 2:30 p.m. today.
