Antlers rack up two wins

Eric Spruill

PRYOR The Deer Creek baseball team took it to two of the better teams they’ve faced all season, snapping Tahlequah’s six-game win streak, then downing 5A’s No. 8-ranked Pryor.

The Antlers started the day with Tahlequah, winning a 10-8 slugfest.

“Tahlequah is one of the best hitting teams I’ve seen in a while. They can swing the bat, everything we threw, they hit it perfectly,” Deer Creek head coach Ron Moore said.

Luckily the Antlers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

Derek Vaughn went 2-for-4 in the contest with three RBI, while Matt Fream went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, while Cale Coshow went 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Coshow also picked up the win on the mound, as he improved to 3-1 on the season. Blake Anderson threw two innings, while Vaughn earned the save throwing a scoreless seventh inning.

“It was a great win, we got up early, and they kept coming back, but I was really proud of this team for shutting them out at the end,” Moore said.

Fream had an unbelievable game against Pryor, going 4-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and a double, with four RBI’s, in a 12-0 win.

Tyler Price went 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBI.

Vaughn was the winning pitcher, as he gave up two hits through five innings.

Deer Creek will play Checotah today at 5 p.m. A win would earn them a spot in the tournament finals, with a likely matchup against Skiatook.
