Antlers finish third

ARDMORE Deer Creek’s Ian Davis shot a 72 on Tuesday afternoon, to place fourth at the Class 5A state golf tournament at Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, but the Antlers’ bid for a second straight title fell short. The Deer Creek boys finished the tournament in third place, behind state champion Ardmore and second-place Ducan.

“I’m very pleased with the way they reacted these last two weeks and at state,” Deer Creek coach David Morrison said. “We just needed a few more weeks of the season.”

Ardmore shot a 281 today, and won the tournament by 27 strokes over Duncan, which shot a 294 today and finished with a score of 881. The Antlers entered the day in third place, but they were unable to gain ground in the final 18 holes, and finished the day with a score of 301, and a total score of 893.

Carl Albert’s Taylor Gooch won the tournament with a score of 207, after shooting a 72 on Tuesday.

Senior Paul Hobbs finished the tournament strong, shooting 72 on the final day to place 11th overall. Senior Garrett Francis shot rounds of 74-72 on Monday, and finished the tournament with a 79. Hunter Kaestner shot a 78, and Braden Zelnicek shot an 87 on Tuesday.
