Bishop Kelley sweeps Antlers

The Deer Creek boy's soccer team put in the extra effort in Tuesday night's Class 5A semifinal contest, but came up empty handed. The Antlers rallied from a one-point deficit to force overtime against Bishop Kelley, but they were unable to knock off the No. 3-ranked Comets, who pulled out the 2-1 shootout victory.

"They played excellent this year and we were in probably toughest district in the state, and to get to the semifinals is great," Deer Creek coach Tony Orsi said. "It didn't feel good losing, but there's plenty of teams that would like to have been here, and our kids played their hearts out."

Eli Smirlis knotted the game up 1-1 when he scored on a pass from Sebastian Ibeagha with 10 minutes left in the game.

Deer Creek got a pair of goals from Shawn McClaws and Ibeagha in the shootout, but Bishop Kelley countered with four goals, for the win.

The Antlers finished the season with a record of 14-4.
