The Oklahoma Christian School boy's soccer team continued to break new ground on Tuesday night, as they advanced to the Class 4A state championship game, with a 4-2 win over Verdigris. The No. 9-ranked Saints (13-5), who pulled out postseason wins over defending Class 5A state champion Bishop McGuinness and Woodward, are the first team school history to advance past the quarterfinals.
"They've been playing with a lot of confidence, and they've peaked at the right time," OCS coach Greg Andrews said.
The Saints will meet up with No. 3-ranked Cascia Hall in the 4A state finals Saturday at Tulsa University.
Mac McDaniel helped OCS get on the board first, when he scored on a pass from Taylor Frost, giving the Saints an early 1-0 lead. Travis Lacy and Hank Holland also scored in the first half, giving OCS a 3-0 lead at the break.
Early in the second half, senior Taylor Frost scored on a pass from Hank Holland to give the Saints a 4-0 lead.
Verdigris avoided the shutout with a pair of goals late in the game, to make it a 4-2 final.
