HINTON — Despite having five freshmen in the lineup, the Oklahoma Christian School boy’s golf team rolled to a sixth place finish in at the 2A state golf tournament on Tuesday at Sugar Creek Canyon.

Jackson Ogle led the saints with a fourth place finish in the individual standings, posting rounds of 74-69-76. Ogle had seven birdies, an eagle, five bogeys, four pars and a double bogey, on his round of 69.

“I hit the ball fine, I just couldn’t make a putt. It’s disappointing not to reach my individual goal, but as a team we made a lot of progress,” Ogle said.

The Saints Scottie Verplank had rounds of 82-77-85, while Andrew Tressler finished 89-88-82. Alex Rindles went 89-87-92, and Michael Kraft posted rounds of 94-100-100.

OCS made a charge during the second round, as they moved up to fifth place, but was unable to keep the spot on Tuesday.

“As a group of freshmen these guys have come a long way from their first high school experience,” OCS coach Patrick Hall said. “They learned to compete against the golf course as a team.”

Washington took home the team title with rounds of 297-314-316=927, followed by Fairview, Velma Alma and Hinton. Christian Heritage edged out the Saints by six strokes, finishing with a three-round total of 988 strokes.

Fairview’s Logan Herbst took medalist honors with rounds of 67-70-72.
