Cascia Hall tops Saints in title game

TULSA — Oklahoma Christian School knew they were in for a battle when they met up with the Cascia Hall Commandos Saturday night in the 4A state soccer final at the University of Tulsa Soccer Complex.

But they were hoping for a much different outcome.

The Saints lost to Cascia Hall 3-0 to end their season at 15-6 as state runner-ups for the 4A crown.

Cascia Hall came out strong and dominated the offensive flow of the contest in the first half, but was unsuccessful in converting despite outshooting the Saints 9-3 in the first 40 minutes of play.

“I think we came out a little intimidated,” said Saints head coach Greg Andrews after the loss. “We just got away from our game plan and the things that got us to this point.”

Cascia grabbed the lead with 26:07 left in the second half when Scott Chevaillier drove down the right side of the field and worked into the penalty box where he rocketed a right footer that caught the left side of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Despite finding themselves down a goal, the Saints increased their offensive pressure, almost converting with 17:44 to play when Hank Holland crossed the ball into the penalty box and a header bounced off the upright. The ball then rolled across the front of the goal, but there were no Saints there to convert the open goal opportunity before the ball was cleared.

Price Pinkerton added Cascia’s second goal at the 13:31 mark when he took a pass and drove down the left side of the field. Pinkerton pulled the defense out which opened a clear path that allowed him to hook a stiff shot into the net.

Price Pinkerton added the final goal off a corner kick conversion with 8:46 left in the contest.

“Our guy’s never quit tonight and that was a real positive for us,” Andrews said. “There are a phenomenal group of young men and it has been a privilege for me to be a part of this team and to have been able to tag along for this ride.”
