The school year is winding down, and all the gold basketballs have been handed out, but it’s not over for some area standouts. Several Edmond ballers are scheduled to take part in the Big All-City basketball games tonight at Putnam City West High School.
The girls will start things off at 6 p.m. and the boys game will follow. There will also be boys and girls' three-point competitions and a slam dunk competition.
Edmond Memorial will have three representatives on the East team. Daniel Romano and Daniel White will take the floor for the East, and Bulldogs head coach Shane Cowherd will join Harrah’s Bryan Jennings as the team’s coaches.
“It’s always an honor to be selected, we’ve been fortunate, our players have been honored more than most this year,” Cowherd said. “Its a nice opportunity to have some down time with the peers you respect, and get to enjoy a game of basketball.”
Santa Fe, which made it to the Class 6A state semifinals, will have two players selected Nic Combs and Ross Morrisett. Also representing the Wolves will be Santa Fe coach Shawn Schenk. The Wolves’ coach, who was named the Region 8 coach of the year, will join Guthrie’s Pete Papahronis on the sidelines for the West team.
“There will be a a lot of kids from the conference and the area, and it should be fun,” Schenk said. “Both our guys are excited to play in it, and I’m glad Nic can play in a good all-star game, I feel like it was really a mistake in him not being selected to the All-State game.”
Also on the West team will be Deer Creek’s Josh Phillips and Jordan Lundeen, and two of Central Oklahoma’s top recruits Brentrell Friday (PC North) and Shane Carroll (Mustang).
The girls game will also have a local feel, with five area players on the roster.
Edmond North will have two representatives, Kelcy Gregory and Hope Heinen, Deer Creek will have two players, Bri Barnes and Courtney Cook, and Santa Fe will have one representative in Ciara Thomas.
