STARKVILLE, Miss. — Alley Roberts became Central Oklahoma's first softball All-American in 10 years on Wednesday, earning third-team honors on the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II All-America Team.
The junior second baseman, UCO's first All-American since Chasidy Horton in 1997, led the Bronchos to a 36-16 record -- the second-most wins in school history -- and a berth in the Division II national tournament this season.
"This is a great honor for Alley and one she was most deserving of," UCO coach Genny Stidham said. "She had a great season for us in all aspects of the game and has gotten better every year she's been here."
Roberts was UCO's offensive ringleader all year, leading the team and ranking among the Lone Star Conference leaders with a .375 average. She scored a single-season school record 46 runs and also led the team in hits (63), doubles (11), triples (3) and home runs (11) while adding 32 runs batted in and 12 stolen bases.
A native of Pawnee in her third year as a starter, Roberts finished second on UCO's single-season records list for homers and hits and fourth for at bats (168). She already ranks fourth in career homers (20) and will threaten a number of school career records next season.
Roberts was earlier named a first-team All-LSC North Division selection in addition to picking up first-team All-South Central Region recognition by both the NFCA and Daktronics.
