OCU in third at women's tournament

LAKE SAN MARCOS, Calif. — Oklahoma City University women’s golf team charged into a tie for third place at the NAIA Women’s Championship held at Lake San Marcos Country Club, as the Stars remain in the hunt for its fourth consecutive national title.
Former Edmond Memorial standout Sydney Cox posted a 9-over par round of 81, as she goes into today’s second round tied at 34th.
The junior overcame a rough start, as she had four bogey’s and a double bogey on the front nine.
Cox enters the tournament on a high note, after finishing third in the NAIA Region VI women’s golf championships held at Rose Creek Golf Club.
Cal State San Marcos holds a narrow lead after the first round, carding a team score of 311, just five strokes ahead of Lindsey Wilson, and a seven-stroke advantage over OCU.
British Columbia is tied with the Stars at 318, while Embry Riddle is two strokes behind OCU at 320.
The Stars were led by freshmen Laura Jones, who was 6-over on the par 72 course, and is tied for 11th place.
SCAD’s Katina Ruest is in sole possession of first place after posting a 1-over round of 73, holding a one-stroke lead over Rocky Mountain’s Rachel Warren, who carded an opening-round 74.
