Memorial knocks off Stillwater

— The Memorial (AAA) baseball team got a three-run single from Landon Hallum in the second inning as the Bulldogs held off Stillwater (AAA) on Monday night, winning 8-5.
It could have been worse.
In the bottom of the first Alex Hill and Trey Reynolds drew two-out walks, along with a single from Dillon Keester to load the bases, but a fly-out ended a scoreless inning.
Brad Honeycutt threw another scoreless inning in the second, before Memorial got on the board in a big way.
Grant Bohuslavicky started the inning with a single up the middle, followed by a single from Landon Jones. Dylan Fieth advanced both on a sacrifice fly, and Drew Dahlberg got onboard reaching by error, setting up Hallum’s three-run single to left field.
Memorial carried a 3-0 lead into the third, where Honeycutt again shut down the Pioneer offense.
Austin Beck-Hill and Bohuslavicky, each got singles to start the inning, and Fieth added to the Bulldog’s lead with a fielder’s choice, scoring Beck-Hill from third.
Stillwater would come back. Trevor Davenport and Connor Davenport started the fourth with singles, then Alex Holt drew a walk to load the bases. Dalton Dowling hit a bases-clearing single, and another run would score on an error moments later.
Matt Smith came in to relieve Honeycutt, and forced two straight outs to get the Bulldogs out of the inning.
Memorial was unable to get anything going in the bottom half of the inning.
In the fifth, Smith forced a ground out, gave up a single to Davenport, then struck out the next two batters.
Bohuslavicky started the bottom of the fifth with a lead-off single to left center field, and Fieth scored him with a RBI triple to left. Hallum went on to score Dahlberg with an RBI single giving Memorial an 7-4 lead.
Stillwater managed one run in the sixth, an RBI single from Frank Arena, to pull within two.
Memorial went on to get singles from Keester, Beck-Hill and Bohuslavicky, to load the bases, before Jones got hit in the head by a pitch to score the Bulldog’s final run.
Fieth went to the mound from center field in the seventh and retired the side to finish the game.
