'Dogs pull out sweep against PC North Red

OKLAHOMA CITY - After routing the Putnam City North Red squad in the opener of Wednesday night’s doubleheader, the Edmond Memorial boys needed some late game heroics to hold onto the two-game sweep. The Panthers went hitless through the first four innings of play, before scoring four runs late in the game to pull within three. Ethan Farris then closed out the night with a 1-2-3 seventh inning, as the ‘Dogs held on for the win at PC North.

“Our guys did a nice job stepping up and playing well today, got two win,” Memorial coach Cody White said. “We hit the ball well and our hitters were very aggressive today, which I like to see. They jumped on a lot of fastballs and definitely hit some gapers and did a great job supporting our pitchers today.”

Memorial came out swinging in game one, scoring four runs in the first inning as they cruised to a 13-2 win in six innings.

Drew Dahlberg was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI, Landon Hallam went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI and Landon Jones added a pair of hits and two RBI.

Alex Hill got the win for Memorial, allowing just two runs on four hits in five innings of work. Hallam came on in the sixth and struck out one.

“He really made the adjustment in the third inning and went out and threw strikes and forced contact,” White said.

The ‘Dogs opened the night with a four-run first inning with Grant Bohuslavicky scoring two with an RBI single. PC North struck back with one in the bottom of the inning, making it a 4-1 game.

Memorial added two runs in the second and Hallam pushed the lead to 8-2 with a two-run homer, his sixth of the summer season.

The ‘Dogs then closed out the Panthers with a five-run rally in the sixth. Hallam wrapped up the scoring with an RBI single, scoring Bohuslavicky for the run-rule win.

Memorial appeared to have another quick win in the nightcap, as they opened a six-run lead through the first four innings of play. That all changed as the Panthers broke up Farris’ no-hitter with four runs late in the game. But the ‘Dogs were able to hold on for the 7-4 win.

Farris threw a complete game for the ‘Dogs, allowing four runs on four hits, while striking out three.

Keester finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Dahlberg and Jones were each 2-for-4.

Dahlberg got the ‘Dogs going when he blasted a solo homer to left in the third inning. Trey Reynolds followed that up with an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch, giving Memorial a 3-0 lead. Jones then made it a four-run game when he scored from third on a double steal.

The ‘Dogs pushed two more across the plate in the fourth. Dahlberg hit a double to the left-center gap and later scored on a wild pitch. Keester then pushed the lead to 6-0 with an RBI single to right.

Brooks Walker broke up the no-hitter when he doubled to right in the bottom of the fifth. The Panthers scored two in the inning and added a pair in the bottom of the sixth, but couldn’t get any closer.

Memorial is back at home tonight for a doubleheader with Santa Fe.
