The Edmond Stars run at the championship in the Old South Plains Classic came to an end Tuesday night, when they were blanked 8-0 by the Edmond Travelers.
“They kept us off balanced all night, it was a rough game today,” Stars coach Cody White said.
The Stars hitters had a tough time getting many hits off the Travelers pitching staff. Edmond collected just four hits on the night.
“We couldn’t string anything together, never had that big inning we were looking for,” White said. “We just didn’t swing it very well all around.”
The Travelers got on top of early with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. They continued to gradually extend their lead.
Former Santa Fe pitcher Matt Ogbeide came on in relief in the top of the fifth inning and shut down the Travelers. But the Stars couldn’t muster any offense in the bottom of the inning, and lost 8-0 in five innings.
The Stars will be back action Monday for a three-way contest with the Outlaws and Ambassadors. Edmond will take on the field at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
