Cortese selected for Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Hall of Fame

Former Oklahoma Wranglers head coach Bob Cortese, who writes a weekly column for the “Sun” will be inducted into the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Hall of Fame this weekend.
Cortese coached Mesa State (1980-89) and at Fort Hays State (1990-97), and in 17 seasons in the conference had a record of 139-54-6, a winning percentage of better than 70 percent.
His teams won eight RMAC championships (82, 83, 85, 86, 87, 89, 93, 95), as he was named RMAC Coach of the Year seven times.
Cortese coached Mesa State to the NAIA championship game in 1982 and 1983.
The coach then went on to the Arena Football League, where he was the head coach of the Oklahoma Wranglers, before spending time with the Portland Forest Dragons, Wichita Stealth and the Grand Rapids Rampage.
Cortese was inducted into the Mesa State hall of Honor in 1997. Cortese lettered in four sports at Northeaster Junior College, as he played football for two seasons, where he was a first-team All-American, while also lettering in track, golf and wrestling. He then went on to the University of Colorado, and played football for two seasons, then served as the graduate assistant for two years, before serving as a high school football coach.
