Dilbeck wows at first day of Top Gun QB Challenge

Deer Creek quarterback Dax Dilbeck has had plenty of time to make his talent’s known — he will be a four-year starter this fall — but the Oregon State commit dazzled everyone on Friday in the first day of action at the Top Gun Quarterback Challenge held at the Performance Sports Center.
Dilbeck turned in the top time in the 40-yard dash, running a 4.32 according to the handheld timers.
“Dax Dilbeck turned in a really good time,” event co-founder Jared Allen said. “Though it should be noted that it was on handheld timers.”
Dilbeck’s previous best in the 40 was 4.52, still remarkably fast.
Performance Sports Center uses a mondo surface for the athletes to run on, widely considered one of the fastest surfaces in the world.
“The mondo surface is the same track that they used at the Atlanta Games in 1996, and there were a lot of world records broken on this surface. It’s a very fast surface,” Performance Sports Center, Director of Athlete Development, Beau Adams said.
Enid’s Clint Chelf turned in a 4.48, while Millwood sophomore-to-be Kevonte Richardson clocked a 4.49, as did Cashion’s Cayden Cochran.
Richardson also boasted a 32.5 inch vertical leap, tops at the challenge, while Zach Horn, of Jenks, came in a 31.5 inches.
Dilbeck’s athletic prowess was also on display in the pro-agility drill, where he scored a 4.083, Chelf finished second at 4.13, followed by Ryan Stringer, of Clinton, and Keaton Callens, of Guthrie.
The event will conclude today as athletes go through the mental challenge, and a coverage call, which will not be viewed by the public.
Then at 7 p.m. at Edmond Memorial High School, the quarterbacks will participate in five drills, which resembles the NFL Quarterback Challenge. The athletes will go through an obstacle course, a throwing distance competition, as well as throwing a moving targets.
