Memorial perfect at Prague Tournament
Santa Fe takes two-of-three

The Edmond Memorial softball team got back on track with a strong showing Friday in the Prague Tournament. The Lady ‘Dogs used a potent offensive attack to etch out a pair of wins over Collinsville and Meeker.
“We’re still making some errors we shouldn’t and other teams are hitting a bit, but we’re very impressed with what kids are doing,” Memorial coach Janet Chartney said.
Memorial (7-1) built a 6-2 lead in the fourth inning against Collinsville, but saw their opponent slowly crawl back. The Cardinals scored one in fifth and cut the lead to a run with pair of runs in the sixth. Collinsville then had the bases loaded with two outs, but the Lady ‘Dogs were able to hold on and get a groundout to end it.
Allison Widener led the way for the Memorial, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBI. Melanie Easley was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, and Tori Walker went 2-for-3 with one run scored.
Caitlin Zuerker started the game and threw three strong innings, before giving way to Audrey Barrow, who closed out the game.
The Lady ‘Dogs then squeaked out another tight one in their second game of the day against Meeker. After seeing the Meeker tie the game with a home run in the sixth inning, the Lady ‘Dogs scored two in the seventh inning to pull out a 6-5 win.
Rachel Baker had the hot bat for the Lady ‘Dogs. The sophomore finished the game 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Widener was 2-for-3 and Walker went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Baker threw six innings to earn the win, and Barrow closed out the seventh.
Memorial will play again today at 10:20 a.m.
Edmond Santa Fe also took part in the Prague Tournament Friday and finished with a pair of wins over Chandler and Collinsville.
Sierra Bronkey did it all in Santa Fe’s opener with Chandler. The junior drove in four runs and struck out eight, as the Lady Wolves shut out Chandler 8-0.
“Sierra really lead us today and we put the ball in play better than we had been,” Santa Fe coach Rhonda Lawson said.
Bronkey finished the game 4-for-4 at the plate with four doubles and four RBI. She also allowed just two hits in the shutout.
Things didn’t go as well in the Lady Wolves second attempt. Senior Evan Gray gave up just one hit against Meeker, but that was all it took, as the Lady Wolves fell 1-0.
Meeker took the lead in the fourth inning when their cleanup hitter smacked a solo home run. Santa Fe managed to out-hit Meeker, but could not push any runs across the plate.
“We just could never get the timely hit and they did their job,” Lawson said.
Bronkey led the way at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a walk. Gray finished the game with eight strike outs and allowed just one run on one hit.
Santa Fe then closed out the day with a 2-1 win over Collinsville in seven innings. Karly Nevez hit a sacrifice bunt to advance the runner, and Cailee Null ended it with a walk-off single.
Santa Fe returns to action today against Stroud at 10:20 a.m.
