A hurricane rapidly crossing the Gulf of Mexico has earned Central Oklahoma another home game this Saturday, with the Bronchos now scheduled to host Lone Star Conference rival Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Kickoff at Wantland Stadium will be 2 p.m. General admission tickets will be just $2 each or $5 for a family four-pack.
UCO was slated to make its first road trip of the season to Kingsville, Texas Saturday, but the impending arrival of Hurricane Ike – expected to hit near the Corpus Christi area sometime early Saturday morning – forced TAMUK to cancel school and put Saturday’s game in jeopardy.
School officials from UCO and TAMUK along with LSC Commissioner Stan Wagnon discussed various options regarding the game before it was decided to have the Javelinas come to Edmond. The TAMUK travel party will leave Kingsville early Thursday morning.
“Obviously with the situation in South Texas we thought the right thing to do was to host the game at our place,” UCO athletic director Joe Muller said. “Hopefully we can help with the relief efforts and have the focus be on more than this just being a home game.”
It will the third straight home game for the Bronchos, who are 0-2 with season-opening losses to top-10 teams Pittsburg State and West Texas A&M. TAMUK (1-1) will be playing their third straight road game and is slated to go to Northeastern State next week.
UCO, which was scheduled to host the Javelinas in 2009, will now go to Kingsville for that game.
