North girls take OC meet

The defending state champs are back. After a quiet start, the Edmond North girls’ cross country team claimed their first title last week, winning the Oklahoma Christian University Meet on Thursday.

The Lady Huskies kept things tight, with four runners finishing 9th through 12th place. Anna Kimsey led the way in 9th place with a time of 12:57, Hannah Helker rounded out the top 10 at 12:57, and Megan Watson and Meredith Farley were close behind.

K.K. Washburn guided the Lady ‘Dogs to a strong third place finish. The Memorial standout was third overall with a time of 12:41. Memorial had three others finish in the top 20, with Carley Ellis finishing 16th overall, senior Jill Enge took 19th and Cristina Gonzales rounded out the top 20.

Deer Creek was led by Roman Edwards and Hillarie Kessler, who finished fourth and fifth respectively.The Lady Antlers finished sixth place overall.

The Santa Fe girls took seventh place, with Shannon Ray leading the way with a 17th place finish at 13:19.

Oklahoma Christian School’s Ashlyn Rawls finished 46th overall with a time of 14:33.

Brian Wilson helped the Memorial boys to a second-place finish in the 5k run. The Huskies placed third, Santa Fe was fourth and the Deer Creek boys rounded out the top five.

Wilson led the veteran Bulldog squad, placing third in the event with a time of 16:43. Eric Talbet finished sixth, Colton Bohanon took 11th and Caleb Holt placed 17th for Memorial.

The Huskies were led by Adam Godwin’s seventh place finish. Kyle Costello (12), Dylan Crawford (14) and P.J. Osborn (17) also finished in the top 20.

The Wolves’ Ethan Pollock had a strong showing, finishing the race in 16:51, which was good for fifth place. Christian Pearson was 15th (17:11) and Matt Oesterle placed 19th with a time of 17:24.

Deer Creek’s top runners were Dakota Buck, who placed 16th with a time of 17:20, and Will Kwendi, who finished 26th overall with a time of 17:55.

Sam Henry was the Saints’ top placer at No. 43 with a time of 19:15.
