Lady Huskies stick it to PC West
Jeff Harrison
The Edmond Sun
With dark clouds looming around the Edmond North softball field, the Lady Huskies wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard in Monday’s contest with Putnam City West. The Lady Huskies pounded the Patriots’ pitching, and easily came away with a 10-0 win on senior night.
The team said good-bye to their seniors, Navotni Minter, Rachel and Jessica Smith, and Alyssa Patterson, who did not play due to injury.
“It was a good night for our seniors, all three got out there and got base hits,” North coach Rick Nordyke said.
Rachel Smith wrapped up her last home game in style, driving in four runs. Kady Self was 3-for-3, Kristen Stevenson went 2-for-3 and Jessica Smith was 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Stevenson put the Lady Huskies on the board first with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning, and Rachel Smith tacked two more runs on the board with two-run triple in the third.
North then put things away with a seven-run fourth inning. Brook Crutchfield drove in two runs with an inside-the-park home run, making it a 5-0 game.
Then the Smith sisters gave PC West some double trouble. Rachel Smith drove in two more runs with an RBI single to left field, and Jessica Smith followed it up with a two-run double, giving North a 9-0 lead.
Melissa Harris rounded out the scoring, when she drove in a run with a fielder’s choice, giving North a double-digit lead.
The North girls head to Bartlesville today for regionals. The two teams are set to square off at 12 p.m.
