Lady Antlers can't top Shawnee in regional tourney

After an embarrassing loss to No. 4-ranked Shawnee on Tuesday night, the Deer Creek softball team got another shot against the Lady Wolves. While the Lady Antlers came out sharp in Wednesday’s rematch, Shawnee again came out on top, winning the regional tournament with a 4-1 victory.
“Yesterday was not good, but today we played a lot better,” Deer Creek coach Erin Regier said. “Overall it was a great season, we started off losing the first three games and then lost four in a row, but we turned it around and knocked off some highly ranked teams like Carl Albert, Clarmoore and Collinsville.”
Deer Creek (19-17) opened the regional tournament with a convincing 17-0 drubbing of Northwest Classen on Wednesday afternoon. Whitney Wilfong went 4-for-5 with a triple.
The Lady Antlers then met up with Shawnee for the second time this season. The Lady Wolves quickly disposed of Deer Creek, winning 10-0 in five innings. Lauren Snyder and Mackenzie Roberts had the only hits for Deer Creek, which struck out 11 times.
After the rough loss, the Lady Antlers found their grove Wednesday afternoon, beating Southeast 12-0. Amanda Alston went 2-for-3 at the plate and struck out 11 batters in the win.
The Lady Antlers then got their second chance against Shawnee later in the day. Deer Creek trailed by two runs for much of the game, before Roberts scored a run to make it a 2-1 game. Shawnee added a pair of runs late, making it a 4-1 final.
Christie Yetter took the loss, despite allowing just four hits and striking out six.
