No one enters the state tournament with the momentum of the No. 1-ranked Lady Bulldogs. Not have they won two of the last three state titles — including last year's win over Santa Fe in the finals —but they have won 18 consecutive matches heading into today's match with No. 8 Broken Arrow.
The Lady Bulldogs have been the top-ranked team from the first poll to the final poll of the regular season, and it all starts up front with hitters Sarah Horn and Micah Hancock.
"Micah has done a little bit of everything for us, we've relied so much on her this season. We've had to have her at her best every night out, but we've played well as a team, too. That's the important thing, is we're playing as a team," Memorial head coach Edgar Miraku said after his team won the regional title last week.
Union is the only team in 6A to beat the Lady Bulldogs this season, a four-set win at the Union tournament.
Heritage Hall and Bishop Kelley are responsible for Memorial's other two losses.
Since that night against Bishop Kelley, however, the Lady Bulldogs have been unblemished.
Memorial has earned tournament titles at both Santa Fe and Stillwater, during its 18-match win streak.
The Lady Bulldogs quest to win its second-straight title begins today at 1:45 p.m. at Moore High School.
