'Dogs look to keep win streak alive

Eric Spruill
The Edmond Sun

The No. 11-ranked Edmond Memorial football team will try to earn its third-straight win tonight at Westmoore, as they are getting close to wrapping up their second consecutive playoff spot.

A win over the Jaguars (2-4, 1-2) would give the Bulldogs a sweep of the three Moore schools.

Westmoore earned its first district win of the year last week when they downed Putnam City West, 24-14.

It’s not like the Jaguars have been that bad, they’ve faced some of the top teams in the state. They had a 42-21 loss to Midwest City, and a 38-20 loss at Norman North. Westmoore also suffered a 7-3 setback to Putnam City.

“It’s a big deal for us going up to Westmoore, it’s going to be a big challenge,” Memorial head coach Mark Walker said.

Westmoore has a good running game, something it needed after quarterback Jordan Meers went down with a knee injury in the teams final scrimmage.

Running back Stanley West leads the Jaguars with 475 yards and one touchdown on the season.

Memorial (4-2, 2-1) has been dominant in shutting down running games, and has picked up two consecutive defensive shutouts against two predominately rushing offenses.

The Bulldogs have moved up into third place in the district standings after North lost to Midwest City on Thursday night. Putnam City remained in second place with a 14-7 win over Norman.

Memorial and Putnam City have a potential battle for a first round host spot in the playoffs, in the final game of the season.

Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Moore High School.
