Red hot 'Dogs lead Oklahoma

Jeff Harrison
The Edmond Sun

The Edmond Memorial boys’ cross country team took their show on the road last week. The Bulldogs had a strong showing at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., leading all Oklahoma teams with an 11th- place finish in the boys invitational race, which featured 55 teams from eight states.

Junior Eric Talbert was the top state runner, finishing 24th overall with a time of 15:58. The ‘Dogs next three runners all chiseled time off their 2007 performances. Brian Wilson was next through the gate in 54th place, Colton Bohannon was 56th and Caleb Holt was 98th. Ty Stukey finished 133rd with a time of 17:26.

The Deer Creek boys also competed in the race, placing 20th overall with 628 points. The Antlers were led by Dakota Buck’s 77th-place finish with a time of 16:50. Aaron White was 104th and Will Kwendi finished 113th.

The Woodlands, Texas won the high school boys’ invitational race with 61 points. Teammates Connor Reed and Drew Butler finished 1 and 2 respectively.

In the high school girls invitational it was Deer Creek’s Hillarie Kessler, who set the pace. The junior finished 29th overall with a time of 19:31.

The Lady ‘Dogs placed 17th overall and Deer Creek finished 21st.

While Kessler was the Lady Antlers’ top runner, freshman Roman Edwards was not far behind, placing 34th with a time of 19:37.

K.K. Washbourne led the Lady ‘Dogs with a 46th-place finish and a time of 19:55. Emily Day finished 97th and Aubree Young and Amber Leal finished 106 and 107 respectively.

Mountain Brook (Ala.) won the girls’ invitational. Chelsey Sveinsson of Grennhill, Texas won the race with a time of 17:10.

All three Edmond schools and Deer Creek will compete in Saturday’s regional meet in Marlow. The state meet for Classes 6A-4A will take place on Nov. 1 at Mitch Park.
