GOODWELL — Six players scored in double figures as No. 19-ranked Central Oklahoma opened the 2008-09 season in resounding fashion here Tuesday night with a record-setting 107-40 trouncing of Oklahoma Panhandle.
All 10 available players scored for the Bronchos, who made a school-record 15 3-pointers and shot 61.8 percent (42-of-68) from the field with 31 assists in finishing with a best-ever 107 points. The 67-point spread is the second-largest in school history.
“Our offense was really clicking tonight and it was a great way to open the season,” UCO coach Guy Hardaker said. “We moved the ball well, found the open man and shot lights out.”
The Bronchos took control early and were never tested, racing to a huge 50-15 halftime lead and coasting in from there.
Freshman Taylor Allen hit five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 19 points in just 11 minutes of action to lead UCO, while senior Mallory Markus had 16 points, a career-high 10 rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and two steals.
Rose Anderson made three treys in scoring 15 points and added five assists, with Cristina Yarbrough chipping in 13 points, five assists and four steals and Krista Beaty scoring 13 points in only 11 minutes.
All-America candidate Lizzie Brenner took just three shots in finishing with five points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
The Bronchos return to action this weekend at the Southwestern Oklahoma Athletic Association Classic, starting with a 2 p.m. meeting against Pittsburg State on Friday.
