The Edmond Sun
OKLA. CITY —
A long win streak was snapped Friday as the top two girls swim teams in the state squared off at Oklahoma City Community College. The Edmond North girls swim team had previously won 68 straight duals dating back to 2008 but second-ranked Norman North defeated the Lady Huskies — as well as Memorial and Santa Fe — to take charge over the No. 1 one spot in the state. All three Edmond teams downed original Norman in the dual.
Edmond North’s Sarah Helton was the only individual event winner for the Huskies as she captured the 100 Breastroke.
Natalie Voral championed the 200 Freestyle for Memorial and the Santa Fe girls 400 Free Relay team of Riley Powelson, Christin Bianchi, Alexis Ly and Jessica Landwehr finished fourth for the top place for the Lady Wolfpack.
In boys competition, third-rated Edmond North upset top-ranked Norman North as well as defeating Norman.
Edmond Memorial fell to Norman North but placed ahead of Norman while Santa Fe lost to both Norman Schools.
Individually, Jonathan Ye from Memorial won a pair of events as he took the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Freestyle.
Alan Tran from North also took gold, as he won the 500 Freestyle for the Huskies. He then joined Michael Britton, Zack Padgett, and Joe Short to conquer the 200 Free Relay.
The top placer for Santa Fe was newcomer Eric Williams, who placed fourth in the 50 Freestyle in his first meet with the Wolves.
