UCO's Gibbs earns All-Region honors

EDMOND — Central Oklahoma’s Josh Gibbs was named a second-team selection on the 2012-13 Daktronics Central Region Men’s Basketball Teams that were released Thursday.

The 6-5 junior guard from Kansas City, Mo. was the team’s leading scorer with a 17.5 average while adding 6.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.  He shot 47.3 percent from the field, including 37.3 percent from 3-point range with a team-high 53 treys.

Gibbs scored 20-plus points 10 times as the Bronchos overcame a 1-6 start to end up 15-14 for their ninth straight winning season. UCO finished sixth in its first year in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and made it to the semifinals of the MIAA Post-season Tournament.

Clayton Vette of Winona State was named the Daktronics Central Region Player of the Year and was joined on the first team by Augustana’s Cameron McCaffrey, Washburn’ Will McNeill, Minnesota State-Mankato’s Jarvis Williams and Arkansas-Monticello’s Kori Forge.

Gibbs, who also earned first-team All-MIAA honors, headlined a second-team unit that included Northeastern State’s Bryton Hobbs, Harding’s Zach Roddenberry, Central Missouri’s Dominique Long, Fort Hays State’s Dwayne Brunson and Minnesota State-Moorhead’s Alex Novak.
