EDMOND — Central Oklahoma’s Dillon Rust has been named Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Men’s Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.

The Edmond Santa Fe senior tied for runner-up honors in the Grand Canyon Thunderbird Invitational earlier this week with a one-over-par 217 total. Rust tallied 12 birdies in rounds of 74-70-73 to lead the Bronchos to a third-place team finish in the 16-team event.

Rust and UCO will host the Broncho Invitational Presented by RCB Bank April 2-3 at Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City.

Rust fired a final-round 73 at the Grand Canyon event in Litchfield Park, Ariz.

The Bronchos shot a closing 298 to end with an 889 total in the two-day, 54-hole tournament at the par-72 Wigwam Golf Course.  Host Grand Canyon won the 16-team event by 22 shots over UC San Diego, with UCO edging Dixie State by one stroke for third.

Rust made 12 birdies in the tournament and his 73 gave him a one-over-par 217 total, leaving him in a three-way tie for second behind Grand Canyon’s Jimmy Kozikowski.

Eric Kline also had a closing 73, while Logan Gray shot 75, Trevor Stafford 77 and Tyler Hargus 78.  Stafford ended up tied for 13th at 224 and Hargus tied for 17th at 225.

Russ Purser had a final-round 76 competing as an individual.

UCO will host the Broncho Invitational Presented by RCB Bank next Tuesday and Wednesday at Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City.
