Central Oklahoma national champion Casy Rowell has been named Central Region Wrestler of the Year.
The 133-pound senior from Duncan was selected in a vote of the region’s 17 head coaches and now goes on the ballot for NCAA Division II National Wrestler of the Year with the other three regional winners.
Rowell capped a sensational career by taking the national title March 15 in Cleveland with a 3-2 overtime victory over defending champion Daniel DeShazier of Nebraska-Kearney, earning tournament Outstanding Wrestler honors in the process.
A three-time All-American for the Bronchos, Rowell finished the season 36-5 with 18 bonus-point wins and four tournament championships. He finished with a 134-32 career record, the second-most wins in UCO’s illustrious history, and 70 bonus-point victories.
