Memorial sweeps indoor track meet

NORMAN — The Edmond Bulldogs boys and girls track teams had impressive showings in running to the championships of the annual Oklahoma High School Indoor track and field competition in Norman Friday.

The Bulldogs scored in 10 events and all three relays to pile up 162 points with Jenks a distant second with 94, followed by Performance Unattached All-Stars, Plainview and North Texas Burner in fifth.

Edmond North scored 10 points with Blake Crouch fourth in the 3000 meter run and Mark Sharpton fourth in the 60 hurdles.

In the girls division, Memorial won all three relays for 60 points and had a total of 119 with host Norman also a distant second with 50.5 points followed by Jenks in third, Plainview in fourth and North Texas Burners in fifth.

The Lady Huskies of Edmond North finished with 30 points for sixth place paced by two second-place medals by distance ace and cross country’s All-Edmond Athlete of the Year Jaci Smith. Smith ran a 5:29.86 to take second in the mile run and was also second in the 3,000 meter run in 11:02.93.

Quinn Patterson picked up a bronze medal for third place in the 60 meter dash in a time of 8.18 while the North sprint relay was fifth and the 4x440 relay team was sixth. Grace Brennen added a fifth place in the long jump with a leap of 16-3.

Charlton, Neilson spark Bulldogs

In addition to winning both the 4x440 and 4x880 relays for a 40-point cushion, the Bulldogs also picked up gold-medal performances from Robert Charlton, who won the 60 yard dash in 7:06 and Ryan Neilson, who took first in the 800 to lead a 1-2-4-5 showing by the Bulldogs.

Harrison Pierce picked up the silver while Gabe Thompson and David Lytle were fourth and fifth in the event.

Cross country distance standout Chris Ebert was second in the 3000 meters in a time of 9:34.38 after finishing fourth in the mile run in 4:41.11. Also winning silver for second-place finishes were Donovan Nunley in the 60 hurdles and David Smith with a throw of 54-1 in the discus.

Third Place: Grey Howard, 400; Bulldogs 4x220 relay; Donovan Nunley, high jump; Warren Wand, long jump; Jordan Weltzheimer, shot put.

Fourth Place: Waylan Anderson, 60; Gabe Thompson, 800; Dareion Gooden, high jump.

Fifth Place: David Lytle, 800.

Sixth Place: Josh Minor, 400; Waylan Anderson, long jump.

Relays lift Lady Bulldogs to crown

The Lady Bulldogs wrapped up the meet during the relay section by winning the 4x220 in 1:49.44, the 2x440 in 4:12.05 and the 4x880 in 10:17.74. They got silver medals for second place from Mia Mukes, who ran a 60.5 in the 400, followed closely by Tess O’Connor, Ricki Scheef and Rhandi Jackson who picked up the 3-4-5 points.

Clara O’Connor ran a 2:28.85 for a silver medal in the 800 meter run and in the field events, Merritt Ole cleared 5-0 and Aisha Strickland leaped 16-9 1/2 in the long jump, both good for second place.

Third Place: Tess O’Connor, 400.

Fourth Place: Ricki Scheef, 400, Adrienne Viviani, pole vault; Sierra Sheen, shot put.

Fifth Place: Rhandi Jackson, 400; Morganne Mukes, 60; Lauren Pitts, pole vault.

Sixth Place: Ashia Strickland, 60 hurdles; Kelsie Shanks, high jump.
